the best hostels in asia

After months of backpacking through Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam and Singapore these are the best and most luxurious hostels I’ve stayed at. All these hostels have one thing in common: the beds are super comfy, you sleep well and feel welcome there! You’ll find good lockers, really friendly owners and staff, and a great atmosphere. The rooms here are always spotlessly clean. These are the best hostels in Asia. The Broke Belgian Quality Label!

Indonesia

Devadav Hostel (Nusa Lembongan, Bali)

Not only do I highly recommend going to Nusa Lembongan, when you go there you should stay in this hostel. I booked for two nights and stayed there for almost three weeks. It’s the cleanest hostel I’ve ever vistied, with one bathroom per two beds! The atmosphere is relaxed, and before you know it you’ll be best friends with the amazing people working there. All possible activities in the vicinity are organised by the hostel for a correct price. You can borrow a reusable water bottle here and fill it up with the free drinking water!

Snorkeling in Nusa Lembongan, the trip is organised through the hostel!

Thailand

Bed Station Khaosan (Bangkok)

This party hostel somehow still feels cosy. Everything’s still new and clean, you can eat good food here and jump in the pool afterwards. It’s almost impossible not to make friends, and at night you can go to Khao San Road, which is just around the corner.

Wayha Hostel Don Mueang (Bangkok)

This hostel can be found a bit away from the city, but if you have to fly from Don Mueang Airport the next day, I highly recommend this hidden pearl! They do everything right in this hostel: comfortable beds, cozy common room and computers, tv and terrace. If this hostel were in the centre of the city, I’d stay here for weeks.

Get Hi Hostel (Chiang Rai)

This is my favourite hostel in Thailand. First is an amazing host, and she makes sure everyone feels at home. You will be invited to a monopoly card game or an excursion! The hostel is not too big, which creates a nice family atmosphere. Oh yeah, the free breakfast is available all day long! Book for a day, you’ll stay for a week!

Together with friends and owners of Get Hi Hostel we went on an excursion to the waterfalls in the vicinity of Chiang Rai

About A Bed Hostel (Chiang Mai)

You’ll find this cosy boutique hostel at the border of the historic town, everything is within walking distance! You’ll be welcomed as a king here, the women who work here are super nice and will help you whenever you need something. I’ve stayed in this hostel twice already, and I’ll surely come back one day. Visit Chiang Mai in april during the Songkran festival, it’ll be the highlight of your year!

Cambodia

Sla Boutique Hostel (Phnomh Penh)

In Sla Boutique Hostel you can arrange a tuk tuk tour to the Genocide Museum and the Killing Fields. The big table and nice common room make sure you’ll interact with the other guests. The hostel is located in the city centre and the beds are huge. The young staff will teach you what Khmer hospitality is all about, you’ll certainly feel at home here!

Cozy Cloud Hostel (Siem Reap)

In the centre of Siem Reap you’ll find Cozy Cloud Hostel. Tuk tuk tours of Angkor Wat are organised by the hostel, this will ensure you don’t have to negotiate like a fool for a correct price. When you come back in the evening, feeling tired but very fulfilled, you can relax at the pool. You’re guaranteed to make new friends here, without being woken up by the drunk British lads in the party hostel further on up the road.

When you are in Siem Reap, you have to visit Angkor Wat

Vietnam

Toi’s Travel Home Central (Ho Chi Minh Stad)

In this hostel in Vietnam you’ll be able to calm down from the chaos that is Saigon. Take a beer and talk to your fellow guests about the museums you visited that day. This is the only hostel I’ve visited in Vietnam that I can recommend, so don’t doubt booking here!

9 Station Hostel (Phu Quoc)

My friend Aaron recommended this hostel to me. According to him, people were incredibly nice, the beds were big and very comfortable and the AC in the rooms was cold. The included breakfast is as good as something you’d expect to pay 15 dollars for at a restaurant in the USA. The common area is inviting and always filled with people socializing and there are drink specials every night. You can book a motorbike for a very reasonable price. When you grow tired of the nice pool, you can go the the beach in walking distance!

Singapore

Thad’s Boutique Hostel

This place used to be known as COO Hostel. The bar downstairs is super nice, but the beers are a bit expensive in Singapore if you’re used to Belgian prices. Thad’s Boutique Hostel is very close to the centre of Chinatown, and only a five minute walk away from the MRT. You’ll sleep well in these rooms, and the terrace on the first floor is a nice place to relax.
